I do not know why so many females have problems with sex. Here in Austria many women work and there are no problems, even our CEO is a woman. I think the American women simply think too much about it after.

This post is great. An awakening for each one of us that we should start to free ourselves from the bondage of tradition. It's a fact that women are now now inclined to profession which was only for men before.It's about time that we embrace the essence of equality in society. Even in mythology, there is no gender equity and women were deprived of their legal rights, to get property, education privacy, social status and they were never treated as participants in any developmental works.

How do we attract more women to engineering? I think a good first step is to start blatantly telling women we want them to become engineers. The main reason MIT was so successful in attaining gender parity in the late 1990s was due to the “Women’s Weekend” program in place at the time. Rather than try to change the advertising or atmosphere to be more appealing to women and hope for the best, they cut to the chase. They sent mail to each and every woman applicant saying that they wanted www.chase.com more women to attend MIT and inviting them to a special weekend program so they could demonstrate how much they meant it. That program has since ended, but it did its job: the MIT undergraduate gender split is even while other top technical schools are still at 80-20.

I consider that women in this plan than not worse men. But there is nothing surprising that you write. Simply girls since early years prepare not for career, and to that that they will be keepers of a home.

I found this post through your comment on the MSNBC.com message board. The reason IMHO why women who are interested in science tend to go into medicine and the life sciences rather than engineering or the physical sciences is the perception that the former are more altruistic professions. It's obvious to see that becoming a doctor will allow a woman to help others, but it's less so to see that becoming an engineer could.

Another huge issue for Gen X & Y women is work-life balance. The 60-80+ hour weeks of IT are a big turnoff to women who are or hope to become moms.

Jessica, While it won't solve Synthesis' immediate problem, it is important to have women like you make presentations about careers to after school and other programs that reach young girls. Many do not have role models like you to follow.
